Abstract

Enterprise integration engineering plays a critical role in connecting heterogeneous applications, cloud services, data platforms, and business processes across modern digital ecosystems. However, increasing architectural complexity, distributed integration patterns, and rapidly evolving operational environments introduce significant challenges in maintaining technical documentation, diagnosing integration failures, and extracting actionable insights from operational data. Traditional integration management approaches frequently depend on manual analysis, fragmented knowledge repositories, and reactive troubleshooting practices, resulting in higher maintenance efforts and longer incident resolution cycles. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) presents new opportunities to address these limitations by introducing context-aware automation, natural language reasoning, and intelligent knowledge generation into enterprise integration workflows.

This article examines a generalized framework for applying Generative AI across three interconnected areas of enterprise integration engineering: automated technical documentation, intelligent troubleshooting, and operational intelligence. The proposed approach combines large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), integration metadata, application logs, distributed traces, and enterprise knowledge repositories to support documentation generation, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and operational decision support. It further explores AI-assisted interface discovery, integration dependency analysis, anomaly interpretation, and natural language interaction with enterprise observability systems. Architectural considerations involving data security, model governance, human oversight, accuracy validation, and integration with existing engineering platforms are also discussed. By incorporating Generative AI into established integration lifecycles, organizations can improve engineering productivity, accelerate knowledge transfer, strengthen operational visibility, and enable a transition from predominantly reactive integration support toward more intelligent, proactive, and knowledge-driven enterprise integration management.
